High Power Rifle

High Power Program

The Coeur d’Alene Rifle and Pistol Club maintains an active high power rifle program. We hold a match once a month, year around, on the public 100-yard range with reduced targets. The matches are held on the first Saturday of each month unless it is a holiday weekend; then it is scheduled for Sunday on the following weekend.

The firearms used by high power competitors can be any safe center fire rifle that is capable of rapid fire with a magazine/stripper clip change. Iron sights only are permitted. We welcome new shooters who may be interested in trying out high power rifle, and will provide any training needed to get started.

Throughout the year we shoot the following courses of fire:

NRA National Match Course
Sanctioned by the National Rifle Association (NRA), this is an 80-shot match (800 aggregate) shot in 4 stages: 20 rounds slow fire in the standing position, two 10-round strings of rapid fire shot in 60 seconds each in the sitting position, two 10-round strings of rapid fire shot in 70 seconds each in the prone position, and 20 rounds slow fire in the prone position.

Offhand Match
This match is held in January and February and consists of 60 rounds slow fire in the standing position, divided into 3 strings of 20 rounds each.

CMP John C. Garand Match
This match is held in April and July. Sanctioned by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), this is a 50-shot match in which all competitors shoot stock M1 Garand rifles. The course of fire consists of 20 rounds slow fire shot in the prone position, 10 rounds rapid fire shot in 70 seconds in the prone position, 10 rounds rapid fire shot in 60 seconds in the sitting position, and 10 rounds slow fire shot in 10 minutes in the standing position.

Sporting Rifle Center Fire
Sanctioned by the NRA, this match will be held for the first time in August of 2007. The course of fire is being established and will be announced early in 2007.
